Voices from beyond

Colin Cook, G.A. Taggett, Curtis L. Young and Ian Atwood, from left, star in two benefit performances of Forever Plaid, directed by openly gay actor Curt Arnold. Forever Plaid is the tale of the eponymous band, who rehearsed long and hard to be like their harmonizing idols of the 1950s, only to be killed in a crash on their way to pick up the plaid tuxedos they would wear at their first gig at the Airport Hilton cocktail bar, the Fusel-Lounge.

Thanks to the depleting ozone layer and a strange confluence of planets at the time of their deaths, Sparky, Smudge, Jinx and Frankie are able to return twice to live out their dreams, once at the Beck Center in a show to benefit the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland, and the other time at Weathervane Playhouse in Akron to benefit the Community AIDS Network.

The Beck Center performance will be at 8 pm on August 18. The center is located at 17801 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, and tickets are available by calling 216-357-2241. The Akron performance will be at 8 pm on Monday, August 25. Weathervane Playhouse is at 1301 Weathervane Lane in Akron, and tickets for this performance are available by calling 330-836-3223.
